About Australian Labradoodles
What is an Australian Labradoodle?
Australian Labradoodle Association of America (ALAA) registered Doodles have undeniable charm, but it's their lineage that truly sets them apart. Our breeders' bloodlines are multigenerational, with decades of verified pedigrees and health testing spanning generations. These pedigrees and health credentials from multigenerational ALDs ensure our Doodles are engaging and quick learners with a friendly disposition. Whether being a family companion, a service dog, or a therapy dog, they will have the breeding that promotes strong characteristics needed to fill their role. Plus, their low allergen qualities make them a breath of fresh air to bring joy without compromise to owners and dog lovers with allergies. ALAA Doodles are truly the perfect match for any owner and have the pedigree to prove it.
More info…
The Australian Labradoodle breed dates back to the 1980’s and was initiated by Wally Conran of Royal Guide Dogs located in Victoria Australia. The intent was to create a breed that was allergy and asthma friendly with the temperament of a service dog. This journey was inspired by a visually impaired woman in Hawaii needed a Guide Dog which wouldn’t aggravate her husband’s allergies. Of the 31 Labradoodles bred at Royal Guide Dogs, a staggering 29 made it through as Guide Dogs… an accolade of unparalleled proportion for this “new breed’ of Guide Dog.
To continue the efforts of Wally Conron, breeders in Australia began breeding Labradoodles determined to produce litters with consistent conformation, coat type, and temperament. During the 90’s, a number of other dog breeds were bred into the Labradoodle lines to assist in this effort. Most often, the English Cocker Spaniel and American Cocker Spaniel were the breeds used; however, it is reported that a few other dog breeds were also introduced into certain lines. DNA evidence of these dog breeds are still found in a few lines today, while others were bred out and not reintroduced into any other blood lines.
Currently the Australian Labradoodle is considered to be a cross between the Poodle, Cocker Spaniel and Labrador Retriever, while the Labradoodle is a cross between the Labrador Retriever and Poodle only.
Organizations have been formed to protect the continued development of the Australian Labradoodle lines, and guidelines for the continued introduction of English and American Cocker Spaniel are followed carefully. It is an exciting time to be involved in the development of this breed.”
What do we love about our dogs?
They come from a healthy breed:
This labradoodle breed is highly protected and we genetically test the breeding males and females before they have puppies to ensure that the most desirable qualities are passed down in breeding. Things like hip and eye health, type of coat and temperament are all analyzed.
Their low-shedding coat:
It’s hard to know when purchasing a doodle whether it will actually be non-shedding. With the Australian Labradoodle you can be more assured that you are getting a dog that will have very little shedding because of the way that the dogs with the least shedding coats have been bred together over time. All dogs shed some, (like humans!) however it is almost unnoticeable with our dogs.
Happy, fun-loving personality:
Multi-gen Labradoodles are known for their wonderful personalities. They are trained as service dogs, therapy dogs, firehouse dogs, and make incredible dogs for the family! We have fallen in love our dogs Latte and Simba for their great personalities, sweet temperaments, and playful spirits.
Intelligence:
Australian Labradoodles have proven to be one of the smartest breeds out there. They are also very people oriented and eager to please, which makes them easy to train. We’ve seen this with our dogs and the other Hope Farm Labradoodle dogs we know.
We only breed certified Australian Labradoodles as member breeders of the ALAA. All current member breeders can be found on the ALAA site here. This protects the breed from over-breeding and in-breeding that is often seen with similar breeds, and offers you peace of mind in finding a new pup.
